Woman raped after ‘maintenance worker’ knocked on her apartment door, police say

A 59-year-old woman was raped earlier this month on the city’s west side after a man pretending to be a maintenance worker knocked on her apartment door, according to Olympia police.

On the night of Saturday, May 3, the man came to the woman’s apartment in the 2900 block of Limited Lane Northwest, knocked on her door and said that he was a maintenance worker, Police Lt. Paul Lower said.

The woman let the man inside because she did have a problem in her apartment, but once inside she realized that he was not a maintenance worker.

The man then sexually assaulted her and left the residence. She reported the crime about 11 a.m. May 4, Lower said.

Police do not have a good description of the suspect. He is thought to be in his 50s, Lower said.

Officers investigated the scene, collected evidence and took the woman to an area hospital. The case is now being investigated by Olympia detectives, Lower said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
