A Rochester resident died and another was hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash in southeast Grays Harbor County Tuesday.

The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. on State Route 12 near Oakville, which is west of Rochester, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

The driver, a 57-year-old man, lost control of his vehicle as he traveled east on the highway at milepost 34. The vehicle reportedly left the roadway to the right and struck a rock wall. The vehicle then continued off the roadway to the left and came to rest on the westbound right shoulder.

First responders transported the driver and a passenger to separate hospitals. Teresa F. Dye, a 55-year-old passenger in the vehicle, died at Tacoma General Hospital. Meanwhile, the driver was treated for injuries at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma.

The vehicle was totaled in the crash. No other people or vehicles were involved.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation as of Wednesday, but the memo says drugs or alcohol were not involved.
