Olympia middle school student taken to hospital after classmate used a taser on them
A student at Jefferson Middle School in Olympia was taken to the hospital on Thursday after another student used a taser on them.
According to an email from Principal Jane Allaire sent to students, staff and families on May 15, a student had brought a taser, or stun gun, to school and used it on another student.
Allaire said staff in the room responded immediately when the incident occurred. The student who was tased was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The student who brought and used the taser was escorted to the school’s administration office. The Olympia Police Department is actively investigating the incident. Lt. Paul Lower said there isn’t an outstanding danger to other students.
Allaire said the district will follow its policies and procedures in determining appropriate disciplinary action. District spokesperson Conor Schober told The Olympian that the district is unable to speak on disciplinary matters involving students and it’s unclear if the student who used the taser is back in school.
“We understand that incidents like this can be concerning,” Allaire said. “Please know that the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. We are committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment at Jefferson Middle School.”
