A 30-year-old Thurston County corrections sergeant has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree voyeurism, court records show.

The man was taken into custody on Monday, jail records show.

Court records say the man is accused of putting a camera inside a shampoo bottle that was discovered by a 29-year-old woman while she was taking a shower.

The victim and suspect were longtime friends, according to the court records.

“(The victim) had been staying with (the suspect’s) family at their residence for approximately two weeks as she has been transitioning from a deployment, parking her camper on their property,” the court records read.

The victim and suspect had worked out at an area fitness business over the weekend, then returned to the home to take showers. The suspect took a shower first, followed by the victim, according to the court records.

“While showering, that is when she noticed the shampoo bottle and that the bottom looked to have been tampered with,” the court records read.

She then looked inside the bottle and could see the camera with an on/off switch that was in the “on” position.

“(The victim) stated that she ‘froze,’” the court records read.

She described the shower caddy as being at approximately her chest height and she said she believed that the sole purpose for the camera being there was capturing images or videos for sexual gratification, the court records read.

The corrections sergeant was expected in court Tuesday, according to court information.
