Thurston County deputies searched a Tumwater motel Thursday morning for a man who allegedly fled from a traffic stop.

Law enforcement descended on the motel at 400 Lee St. SW before 7 a.m. after a witness reported seeing the man, said Lt. Mike Brooks of the Sheriff’s Office.

Brooks said the man in question is wanted for eluding law enforcement, driving while his license is suspended, not having an ignition interlock and violating a court order. He said the man has been on the run since around 2 a.m. and remained at large as of 9:30 a.m.

In the man’s first encounter with law enforcement, Brooks said a deputy tried to pull the man over on southbound Interstate 5 near exit 104 for driving a vehicle with an expired registration. The man fled and a pursuit was initiated.

A deputy conducted a successful precision immobilization technique, or PIT maneuver, to end the pursuit near Capitol Boulevard Southeast and O’Farrell Avenue, Brooks said.

The man fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a female passenger, Brooks said.

Brooks only had a vague description of the man to share Thursday morning. He said the man wore a black shirt and dark pants.

Brooks said anyone with information about the man can call 911 as he is still being actively sought.
