Two Lacey residents escaped injury, but an 84-year-old man needed to be flown to an area trauma center after a wreck Thursday afternoon in Mason County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

About 3:30 p.m., a 39-year-old Lacey driver and two passengers, including a 12-year-old girl from Lacey, were headed north on state Route 3 at Mason Benson Road.

Troopers say they slowed down to take a left turn, but an 84-year-old Sequim resident driving behind them failed to yield and crashed into them. He then drove into the southbound lane and crashed into a 21-year-old Port Orchard driver, according to State Patrol.

The Sequim man was injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The Port Orchard man was hurt, too, and taken to Mason General Hospital in Shelton, State Patrol says.
