Tumwater man drowns after reportedly falling into Black Lake

A 69-year-old Tumwater man drowned in Black Lake Wednesday morning.

McLane Black Lake Fire and Thurston County Sheriff’s Office responded to Kenneydell Park at 10:59 a.m. for the reported drowning, according to dispatch.

Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock identified the victim as John Buenzli. The cause of death and manner of death will be identified during his examination Friday, Warnock said.

The coroner said people witnessed the drowning but an explanation for how Buenzli fell into the water has not been officially determined yet.
