A check of what Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders described as a “popular drug house,” resulted in multiple arrests overnight Sunday, the sheriff said in a social media post.

Late Saturday night or early Sunday, a deputy “swung by” the house in the 1300 block of Stillwell Street Northeast and located a newer Dodge pickup truck with a fake Oregon state license plate.

Stillwell Street is in the county’s Tanglewilde-Thompson Place neighborhood.

In his post, Sanders said one individual told the deputy the truck was his before running into a backyard where there were other people. A check of the truck showed it had been stolen in Seattle, Sanders said.

After additional deputies responded, they obtained permission to access a neighboring property, Sanders said in his post.

“We waited in the dark as a female whispered ‘run guys, they’re here!’ from the drug house,” he said.

Then, the following happened:

“One suspect then crawled through the fence right to us and we placed them under arrest for burglary 2nd degree,” Sanders wrote. “A second suspect, who was identified as the one who said the truck was his, was located hiding in the neighbor’s bushes. He remained adamant that trespassing isn’t a crime, and he was simply looking to pick some blackberries at midnight. He is under arrest for burglary 2nd degree and possession of a stolen vehicle.”

In all, deputies detained a dozen people and made additional arrests. Sanders said a total of five people were taken into custody.

“TCSO is currently working on obtaining a search warrant to seize additional evidence,” Sanders said.
