Woman arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Jungle attack. 3 others in custody
Four people are in custody, including a 30-year-old woman accused of first-degree attempted murder, after they allegedly surrounded another woman and began to assault her at the homeless encampment known as the Jungle last week, according to Olympia police and jail records.
About 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, police were dispatched to the 3200 block of Martin Way East after several 911 callers reported seeing a woman bleeding as she walked down Martin Way, police Lt. Paul Lower said.
Police contacted her and she was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Police began to investigate and learned that the 38-year-old victim had gone to the Jungle to return a bicycle to a friend. As she did, she was surrounded by seven people who accused her of being connected to an overdose death, Lower said.
They then began to beat the woman, according to police. A man reportedly pulled out a handgun, pointed it at her head and face and pulled the trigger multiple times. He then hit her with the butt of the gun, Lower said.
Two women, including the 30-year-old accused of first-degree attempted murder, are accused of hitting the woman with a bat, Lower said.
Another party intervened and got the victim out of the camp and onto Martin Way. The woman has since been released from the hospital, Lower said.
Four people have been arrested in connection with the assault while three others are still at large. Lower described those three as two additional suspects and a person of interest in the incident.
Booking charges for all four were not immediately clear; however, the 30-year-old woman, who was arrested Friday, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree conspiracy to commit murder/domestic violence, first-degree assault, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment, felony harassment and an outstanding warrant out of Lacey for theft, jail records show.
Anyone with information is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
