A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes Monday morning, including driving under the influence, after he lost control and crashed his car into a power pole on Maytown Road.

The impact of the collision in the 6100 block of Maytown Road Southwest split the car in half, said Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.

“Remarkably, the driver was able to get out on their own and is currently being treated for minor injuries at St. Peter’s Hospital,” Sanders said in the post.

Photos of the crash scene show the car also caught fire.

“The vehicle’s speedometer was stuck at 100 mph,” said Sanders in his post.

The crash was reported about 9:40 a.m. Monday. The driver was booked on suspicion of reckless driving, first-degree malicious mischief and driving under the influence, jail records show.
