A 34-year-old woman was taken into custody Friday near the Maytown Rest Area off Interstate 5 in south Thurston County due to outstanding warrants and an assault on a Washington State Patrol trooper.

At 11:52 p.m. Thursday, troopers were dispatched to an area near the Maytown Rest Area where a woman was screaming and destroying trash cans. The caller who reported the incident said the woman appeared to be experiencing a crisis.

WSP troopers arrived and detained the woman, but after she was placed in the patrol vehicle, she spit in one of the trooper’s faces, according to Trooper John Dattilo.

Dattilo said there was no use of force, and no injuries occurred. The woman was booked into Thurston County Jail on the outstanding warrant and fourth-degree assault.
