A driver was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes Tuesday morning, following a burglary and car fire near U.S. Highway 101, Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post.

Sanders said that deputies were dispatched to a burglary at an area marijuana business early Tuesday morning. Once there, two drivers fled the scene, triggering two pursuits, he said.

One driver headed north on Interstate 5 and into Pierce County and got away. The sheriff said, “We were unable to get assistance soon enough.”

The other driver drove in the direction of U.S. Highway 101.

“This vehicle was successfully spiked, at which point a deputy conducted a PIT (precision immobilization technique) maneuver,” Sanders writes. “The vehicle continued to flee when a second PIT maneuver was conducted.”

Sanders said the driver tried to escape a second time, backed into a power pole and the vehicle caught on fire.

“Cannabis plants could be seen inside the vehicle as it went up in flames,” Sanders said in his post.

The driver was booked on suspicion of vehicle prowl, burglary and attempting to elude, according to Sanders.
