Pedestrian dies after being struck by a vehicle on I-5 Wednesday night
A pedestrian died when a vehicle struck them on Interstate 5 near Lacey Wednesday night.
The collision occurred just after 9 p.m. at milepost 108 of southbound I-5 near Sleater Kinney Road, Trooper John Dattilo said.
Witnesses reported that the pedestrian had laid down on the roadway and was struck by the vehicle, Dattilo said. First responders transported the pedestrian to an area hospital to meet an airlift, but the pedestrian died on the way.
Dattilo said the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian did not stop, so the incident is considered a hit and run. He said State Patrol had not located the driver as of Thursday morning and he had no description to share.
No other law enforcement agencies had a significant part in the investigation, Dattilo said, but Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders did appear on scene.
Sanders shared a photo of the highway on Facebook at 10:41 p.m. and said his office assisted State Patrol.
The Washington State Department of Transportation shared on X that two center lanes were blocked soon after the collision. The agency indicated the collision was cleared by 11:33 p.m.
