Chehalis driver dies after vehicle crashes into tow truck on I-5 early Wednesday
A Chehalis driver died after colliding with a tow truck on Interstate 5 near Federal Way early Wednesday morning.
The collision occurred just before 1 a.m. on I-5 near South 272nd Street, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.
State Patrol identified the Chehalis driver as Aimee E. Ott, 59. She died at the scene of the collision. The driver of the tow truck was a 47-year-old Olympia man. A 34-year-old woman rode in the tow truck with the Olympia man. Neither of them were injured in the collision.
The tow truck became disabled on southbound I-5 just north of 272nd Street in lanes two and three of five, according to the memo. The truck was towing another vehicle at the time.
Ott was traveling south in lane two of five in a black Toyota Corolla Hatchback. She struck the rear of the vehicle that was being towed by the truck. All three vehicles came to rest in lanes two and three.
The Corolla that Ott drove was totaled in the collision. The other two vehicles suffered reportable damage.
The roadway was blocked for about five hours following the collision, according to State Patrol.
The cause of the collision remained under investigation Wednesday; however, State Patrol does not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
