Woman stabbed 15-20 times in west Olympia last week, police say
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes in west Olympia last week, including first-degree attempted murder and arson, according to Olympia police.
A 44-year-old woman was stabbed 15-20 times in the head, neck and torso, Lt. Paul Lower said. She was transported in critical condition to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia where she is now in stable condition, Lower said.
About 7:20 p.m. July 28, police were dispatched to the 2600 block of Tranquil Avenue Northwest after the woman requested help.
Police arrived at the scene and could hear the disturbance inside the home, Lower said. They were just about to force their way into the house when the suspect appeared at the front door and surrendered. He, too, had suffered some cuts to his neck and shoulder, Lower said.
Police detained the suspect and entered the home to find the woman and what Lower described as three developmentally disabled adults, two of whom, ages 47 and 55, had suffered cuts to their necks. They also were taken to an area hospital and since have been released to relatives, Lower said.
While police were providing aid, there was an explosion in the house, which turned out to be a gas cannister that had been placed in an oven that had been turned on. Police also found tinfoil in a microwave.
The incident between the man and woman began as an argument and then escalated into the stabbing after the man grabbed a knife, Lower said.
Thurston County Jail information shows the man was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, three counts of assault/domestic violence, unlawful imprisonment and arson.
