Firefighters contain brush fire near Grand Mound after 8-10 acres burned
Firefighters contained a brush fire that threatened multiple structures just north of Grand Mound Monday afternoon.
The fire occurred near the intersection of Case Road and 180th Avenue Southwest. The West Thurston Fire Authority responded to the area at about 1:30 p.m.
When they got there, crews found a blaze “actively spreading” into thick vegetation and a large grass field, according to a news release from WTFA Chief Nathan Drake. The crews evacuated nearby buildings and contained the fire to just 8-10 acres. No structures were ultimately lost.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Drake said.
“This is a reminder that fire season is here,” Drake said in the release. “Conditions remain extremely dry and consistent winds can cause fires to spread quickly. Please use caution and follow all local burn restrictions.”
