160 days of sidewalk repairs coming to Lacey. Here’s the plan
Lacey City Council awarded a $1.3 million construction contract on Tuesday that will be spent to repair sidewalks and plant street trees throughout the city.
The work is expected to begin in October and last 160 days, Public Works Director Scott Egger told the council. The work will install 45,000 square feet of new sidewalks and driveways and 10 Americans with Disability Act-compliant curb ramps and plant 250 new street trees, according to city information.
The city is doing almost twice the annual amount of sidewalk repair this year because they could not squeeze in the construction work last year, Egger said. In 2023, the city completed about 23,000 square feet of sidewalk repairs, according to city information.
There were 13 bidders for the job. The winning bid and contract recipient is R.W. Scott Construction Co. of Auburn.
Here are the areas residents can expect to see crews:
- Northeast Lacey near Marvin Road Northeast and Willamette Drive.
- An area bordered by Sleater Kinney Road Southeast and Carpenter Road, and north of 22nd Avenue Southeast.
- An area bordered by Wonderwood Park to the north and Yelm Highway to the south.
- An area between the southern ends of Hicks Lake and Long Lake.
- An area between Pattison Lake and Ruddell Road.
- Ruddell Road, south of Yelm Highway.
Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder shared a few comments before the contract was approved.
“This is how people get around, especially those who use wheelchairs,” he said. “They need our sidewalks to be functional. This is a quality of life (issue) for a large segment of our population, and so I’m really proud of the work we are doing in this area because it changes the quality of life and safety for a lot of our residents.”
