A man who was found unresponsive in the Thurston County Jail on Sunday and later died has been identified by the Thurston County Coroner’s Office.

About 12:20 p.m. Sunday, Sheriff’s deputies and fire crews were dispatched to the jail after Earl Alexander II, 65, was found unresponsive. Corrections deputies and on-site medical personnel immediately provided life-saving measures until medics arrived. Despite those efforts, the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel, The Olympian reported.

The man’s medical exam was Tuesday, so a cause of death was not immediately known, Coroner Gary Warnock said.

The Sheriff’s Office requested the Region 3 Critical Incident Investigation Team conduct an independent review of the incident, according to the release. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation.
