A Tumwater resident experienced a spooky moment Friday night when he found a stranger standing in his kitchen, according to Tumwater police.

Around 7:20 p.m., two men returned to their apartment building in the 300 block of North Street Southeast, passing another man sitting in an outside stairwell, police Lt. Jen Kolb said.

The two men entered their home and one of them took a shower. After he was done with his shower, he entered the kitchen to find the man who had been sitting in the stairwell now standing in his kitchen.

That man, thought to be about 40 years old, acknowledged he was not supposed to be there and left, Kolb said.

The two apartment residents called 911 and police responded. They found the suspect in the immediate area, who told police he was “looking for a friend.”

Police found no evidence of theft or damage, so he was arrested on suspicion of trespassing, Kolb said. The suspect also had a warrant for his arrest from the state Department of Corrections, she said.
