Person struck, killed by train near Thurston, Pierce county line Thursday

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a train on Durgin Road Southeast on the Thurston and Pierce county line Thursday.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a train on Durgin Road Southeast near the Thurston and Pierce county border Thursday evening.

Sheriff Derek Sanders said first responders arrived at the incident around 6:30 p.m. He said a 911 call came in from Amtrak stating one or two people were on the tracks, and one had been struck. The person who had been struck was dead when emergency personnel arrived.

Coroner Gary Warnock identified the person as a 40-year-old man on Friday morning, but could not confirm his name or where he was from.
