A 41-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence is facing a vehicular assault charge after the Washington State Patrol says he caused a rollover wreck in south Thurston County Saturday night.

About 11:45 p.m., the 41-year-old man and a Portland, Oregon, driver were headed south on Interstate 5 at milepost 89, near Grand Mound, according to State Patrol.

Troopers say the 41-year-old driver struck the rear of the Oregon driver’s vehicle, then both vehicles left the freeway to the right.

The Oregon driver’s vehicle rolled onto its top, while the 41-year-old driver’s vehicle caught fire, according to State Patrol. However, he was not hurt, troopers say.

The vehicle that rolled over was occupied by three people. One of the passengers, a 40-year-old woman from Milwaukie, Oregon, was injured and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.

The freeway was blocked for 45 minutes following the crash, according to State Patrol.
