Timberline High School went into lockdown Wednesday after a student allegedly pointed what appeared to be a handgun at another student off-campus.

A student called 911 shortly after 11 a.m. to report that a 17-year-old student pointed a handgun at them from a car on Mullen Road Southeast near the school, Lacey police Sgt. Jeremy Knight said.

A school resource officer immediately placed the high school in lockdown and Lacey police officers responded to the scene, the Lacey Police Department shared in an afternoon Facebook post. Meanwhile, Lakes Elementary School, which is across the street from the high school, went into lockout, Knight said.

Officers quickly located the student suspect at the high school and arrested him on suspicion of felony harassment, Knight said. He was later booked into juvenile detention, he added.

Knight said the lockdown and lockout lasted about 25 minutes and were lifted by 11:32 a.m.

“Officers and staff worked well together to mitigate the situation in a safe manner,” Knight said.

Officers did not locate a handgun on the student or on the campus, Knight said. The handgun was later found at a residence and determined to be a BB gun, Knight said.

The student allegedly pointed the BB gun as he rode in a car driven by a juvenile girl who was not a student, Knight said.

A motive for the alleged incident was still under investigation Wednesday afternoon, he said.
