Headed north from Olympia Friday or Saturday night? Expect delays, WSDOT says

Drivers planning to head north on Interstate 5 Friday or Saturday night, or early Sunday morning, should prepare for lane closures in the Lacey area, the state Department of Transportation announced.

WSDOT crews will close two right lanes of northbound I-5 between Carpenter Road and Marvin Road.

The lane closures will allow crews to make repairs to the roadway. During the morning of Sunday, Oct. 5, travelers may see little to no activity in the work zone as concrete is curing.

Work schedule

  • 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 until 2 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4
  • 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 until 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5

What to expect

  • Northbound I-5 reduced to one lane approaching Carpenter Road.
  • Significant congestion approaching the work zone during late morning hours Sunday, Oct. 5.

WSDOT asks that drivers travel before or after work hours, consider postponing discretionary trips, or add extra travel time during the late morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 5.
