A 38-year-old man was arrested last week on suspicion of first-degree assault after he was accused of pointing a gun at another man’s head in the Lacey area.

About 9:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, a deputy was dispatched to assist Lacey police after police had been called to the scene on 16th Avenue Southeast because of a loud argument between two brothers, according to court records.

One of them had been assaulted and they were arguing about whether to report the alleged crime.

The deputy arrived and learned that earlier in the evening, one of the brothers had been tending to horses on a Steilacoom Road property in the Lacey area when he encountered the suspect.

The suspect was talking negatively about the man’s sister, according to the court records. The man asked him to stop, which the man said ultimately resulted in the suspect shoving a gun against the man’s face just under his right eye.

The man said he heard the click sound of the gun and thought he was going to die. He then pleaded for his life and the suspect backed away, allowing the victim to leave.

As the victim explained the incident to the deputy, he warned the deputy to be very careful at the Steilacoom Road property because he claimed the suspect has ties to the Jalisco cartel and is “very dangerous,” the court records read.

Multiple deputies responded to the Steilacoom Road address and the 38-year-old suspect was detained without incident. He denied any involvement in the incident, claiming he had been in Tacoma for several hours, according to court records.

A search warrant was obtained but the gun could not be found. However, the victim positively identified the suspect as the man who had allegedly assaulted him.
