Thurston County deputy crashes while responding to Yelm collision Wednesday morning
A Thurston County deputy crashed their patrol vehicle while enroute to a collision in Yelm early Wednesday morning, Sheriff Derek Sanders said.
The crash occurred just before 12:26 a.m. on Old Highway 99 Southeast near East Olympia Fire District 6 Station 64, according to dispatch.
The deputy was involved in a single-car rollover crash as he was responding to a rollover collision in Yelm, Sanders shared on his Facebook page. The deputy had their lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash, he added.
Following the incident, the deputy was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, Sanders said. A photo attached to Sanders’ post shows a wrecked patrol vehicle with the windshield mostly peeled off.
Yelm police assisted the Sheriff’s Office with the collision in Yelm while Washington State Patrol responded to investigate the deputy’s crash, he said.
“Thank you to our fellow first responders who assisted our deputy in this crash,” Sanders said.
The Sheriff’s Office intends to conduct an internal review of the collision to determine what caused the crash, he added.
