Will it be cold and rainy on Halloween in Olympia? What the forecast says
If you’re planning to trick or treat in Olympia this Halloween, you might want to pack an umbrella.
A weather system is expected to move in during the day on Friday, Oct. 31, and “the rain will be moving in as the evening moves on,” Dustin Guy, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle, told The Olympian by phone on Wednesday.
So, when it comes to venturing outside on Halloween, “the earlier the better,” Guy said.
A few showers could hit earlier in the day, but most of the rain is expected to hold off until evening, Guy said.
And, “the later in the evening you go, the wetter it’s going to get,” Guy said, noting that Olympia could get up to 1.5 inches of rain between Friday and Saturday evenings.
The temperature, meanwhile, is expected to be mild, with overnight lows around 50 degrees on Friday, Guy said.
During the day on Friday, a high of about 55 degrees is expected.
For those able to get out in the afternoon, participating businesses in downtown Olympia will be entertaining trick-or-treaters from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 31.
If you would rather stay dry, the Capital Mall is hosting a trick-or-treat event from 5-7 p.m. on Halloween night.
As for the rest of the weekend, it may be a bit drier on Sunday, but your umbrellas might still get some use, according to Guy.
Overall, “it’s going to be a very wet period from Friday night through a big part of Saturday. Be prepared for that — plenty of rain,” Guy said.
