Standoff with domestic violence suspect lasted about an hour, Thurston sheriff says

A 25-year-old man is facing a slew of criminal charges after a Friday morning standoff with deputies in the Rochester area, said Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.

Deputies began searching for the man that morning because he was wanted for domestic violence and other DV-related crimes, according to the post.

He was located in the 8600 block of 178th Avenue Southwest.

“The suspect, who was high on meth and barking back and forth with a (police dog), was located in a travel trailer,” the post reads. “Despite nearly an hour of negotiating, the suspect refused to exit. Deputies were granted a search warrant to enter the trailer and arrest the suspect.”

But before deputies could enter the trailer, the suspect came running out of it with a black object in his hand, Sanders said.

Deputies used a taser and what Sanders described as a “40mm less lethal round,” but the suspect turned and tried to make a run for it, he wrote. The black object turned out to be a flashlight, Sanders said.

A police dog was then used to take the man into custody, according to the post.

The 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary/domestic violence, first-degree criminal trespass, resisting arrest, obstructing a law enforcement officer, violation of a no-contact order/domestic violence, possession of a synthetic narcotic, and first-degree theft/domestic violence, according to Thurston County jail information.
