Pedestrian hit by car during foggy conditions, Thurston County fire agency says

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at state Route 507 and Vail Road Southeast in Yelm on Sunday night, according to the Southeast Thurston Fire Authority.

According to a social media post from the Fire Authority, crews responded to the incident about 7 p.m. on Nov. 30.

“Responders arrived to find one patient down on the roadway,” the social media post said. “The patient received immediate care on scene and was transported ALS (by Advanced Life Support medical services) for further evaluation.

Fire Chief Mark King confirmed Monday that the person struck by the vehicle was an adult male, and his injuries were non-life threatening. He was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital to be evaluated.

King said the man was walking on the side of the road when a vehicle attempted to make a right turn onto Vail Road.

The Fire Authority said that “with the heavier traffic through that intersection and dark, foggy conditions,” they “appreciate the overall caution shown by drivers in the area” as crews responded.

“Slowing down and staying aware gives our responders the space they need to work safely, especially during evening and winter hours,” they said. “Please continue to use extra care as visibility drops this season.”
