Expect traffic, road closure and 1,500 motorcycles for annual Olympia Toy Run

The 48th annual Olympia Toy Run is this Saturday, and this year’s event is expected to bring 1,500 people on motorcycles to downtown.

According to a news release from the Department of Enterprise Services, Deschutes Parkway will be closed to normal traffic from Lakeridge to Fifth Avenue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, because of the event. Marathon Park’s parking lot will also be closed.

Each year, the Olympia Toy Run invites motorcyclists to gather, ride and bring toys and money for The Salvation Army for distribution to needy kids through its Toy n’ Joy Shop.

The roar of thousands of motorcycles echoed through the streets of downtown Olympia on Saturday, Dec 3, 2022, as riders stood in for Santa for the annual Olympia Toy Run. Gathering earlier in the morning at the South Sound Mall in Lacey they all set off for a 1 p.m. parade to Marathon Park along Capitol Lake to deliver thousands of presents Those donations are given directly to the Olympia Corps Salvation Army's “Toy n Joy” program, benefiting families in Thurston, Mason and Grays Harbor counties.
