Bank robbery suspect was taken into custody at area casino, Lacey police say
A 53-year-old man accused of robbing an area bank on Friday was later taken into custody at Red Wind Casino the same day, according to Lacey police.
About 3:50 p.m., police were dispatched to a Key Bank branch in the 8300 block of Martin Way East after he allegedly entered the bank wearing a black mask and handed a teller a note, stating he had a gun and knife, Sgt. Jeremy Knight said.
The man then received an undisclosed amount of money, left the branch and drove away in a gray sedan, which was later identified as a BMW, he said.
Lacey police began their investigation and were able to identify the vehicle from a nearby security camera, he said. A check of the license plate showed that it had allegedly been stolen from an auto sales lot in Federal Way, Knight said.
Police later learned that the suspect had allegedly asked to test drive the vehicle and then never returned it, he said.
Then, about 8:40 p.m. Friday, Nisqually tribal police contacted Lacey police to say they had found the BMW in the Red Wind Casino parking lot and had detained the suspect.
The 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle, Knight said.
