Pedestrian dies after being struck by driver in Tumwater Tuesday evening
A 54-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a driver in Tumwater Tuesday evening.
The collision occurred at about 4:55 p.m. at the intersection of Trosper Road Southwest and Lake Park Drive, which is near Barnes Lake and Interstate 5.
The driver, a 69-year-old Tumwater resident, turned left from Lake Park Drive onto eastbound Trosper Road and struck the pedestrian, Tumwater police Lt. Jen Kolb said. At the time, the pedestrian was traveling across a crosswalk on a mobility scooter.
The driver stopped and called 911, according to a Tumwater Police Department news release. Witnesses reportedly attempted to speak with the pedestrian and render aid until first responders arrived.
Tumwater police and fire personnel responded to the scene and had the pedestrian airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The pedestrian died at the hospital, the release says. The Tumwater Police Department identified the pedestrian as a 54-year-old Tumwater resident who lived in the area.
Tumwater Public Works closed Trosper Road for several hours following the collision, per the release. The incident remained under investigation as of Wednesday afternoon.
