The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about what they are calling a “holiday scam,” saying they typically see an increase in this type of scam this time of year.

The scam involves callers pretending to be deputies or officials from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. The scammers then try to scare people into paying fake fines or court-related fees.

The sheriff’s office asks residents to remember:

  • They will never call to demand money.
  • They will never ask for payment over the phone for warrants, missed jury duty or any court-related matter.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call and isn’t sure it’s legitimate, is asked to call the Thurston dispatch center at 360-704-2740.
