Pedestrian injured after being hit by driver on Martin Way, Olympia police say

A 68-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was hit by a vehicle on Martin Way Monday evening, according to Olympia police.

About 6 p.m., the woman exited an Intercity Transit bus at Martin Way and Lilly Road, crossed in front of the bus and then emerged into a lane of travel. That’s when she was hit by a passing driver, Lt. Paul Lower said Tuesday.

The woman was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were considered serious. He did not have an update on her medical status Tuesday morning, he said.

After the wreck, the driver remained at the scene and was cooperative. He was not impaired, Lower said. The incident is still under investigation, he said.

Lower had reminders for drivers and pedestrians: it gets dark and rainy this time of year so visibility is often poor.

Drivers need to be extra cautious about pedestrians and pedestrians need to do the same with traffic, he said.
