Tree nearly falls on deputy responding to rollover wreck in Thurston County

Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said on social media that a tree fell and nearly hit a deputy who was responding to a call on Christmas Day.

According to Sanders’ post around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded alongside the Washington State Patrol, Griffin Fire and Medic One to a single vehicle rollover collision down an embankment on U.S. 101.

The collision happened near Shaker Church Road, just south of Steamboat Island, according to Sanders’ post.

While deputies and medics were 20 feet down the ravine, Sanders said a large tree fell and nearly landed on a deputy.

Sanders said the driver was evaluated and was determined to not be impaired, and they were transported to the hospital in stable condition.
