Who fired a gun in downtown Olympia Saturday morning? Police would like to know
Olympia police are seeking more information about a gun repeatedly fired downtown Saturday morning.
About 4 a.m., police on patrol heard the shots, then a series of 911 calls directed them to the old train tunnel that runs underneath a section of downtown Olympia, Lt. Paul Lower said Tuesday.
The west end of the tunnel is in the area of Columbia Street and Seventh Avenue Southeast, while the east end of the tunnel is in the area of Jefferson Street and Seventh Avenue.
Police recovered 18-20 shell casings on the east side of the tunnel, then found what appeared to be gunshot damage at the west end of the tunnel, Lower said.
Police did not find anyone who had been injured, he said. They also called area hospitals and there were no reports of gunshot injuries, Lower said.
Discharging a firearm in public is a gross misdemeanor, he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
