Man arrested for alleged Sunday theft at lumberyard, Thurston Sheriff says
A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary early Sunday morning near a lumberyard, said Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post.
The sheriff’s office assisted Tumwater police, he said.
Around 3 a.m., deputies, Olympia and Tumwater police were dispatched to a site in the area of Kimmie Street and 93rd Avenue, according to Sanders’ post and jail log information.
A Tumwater officer spotted the suspect running through the lumberyard, said Sanders in his post.
Later, a sheriff’s office sergeant spotted the man walking away in the area.
“The suspect was extremely muddy and wet from the waist down but dry from the waist up. He was also sweating and out of breath,” said Sanders.
The man’s clothes did not match what law enforcement could see when reviewing video footage; however, they later found a dry jacket under some trees near the burglary scene, which did match the footage, according to the post.
Sanders said they also found burglary tools in the pockets of the jacket.
Prior to the Sunday morning arrest, Sanders alleged the suspect has previously been arrested 15 times.
