Here’s how Olympia businesses are participating in today’s national ICE protests
Several businesses in Olympia have posted about participating in a national shutdown on Jan. 30 in protest of ICE and the Department of Homeland Security.
Rainy Day Records
The local record shop posted a flyer on its social media Jan. 29 stating it would be closed on Friday for the national shutdown. The flyer states, “No work, no school, no shopping, stop funding ICE.”
The flyer states that the record shop will be closed Friday in response “to the recent tragic events that have unfolded in Minneapolis and the accumulative horror show that we’ve been witnessing build up over the past year.”
Rainy Day Records is calling for no more funding of ICE and is encouraging folks to take “whatever meaningful action” they can take on Friday to oppose these actions by the federal government.
The flyer states that the Senate is voting on Friday on a national budget and additional regulations that would require ICE to wear body cameras and would prohibit them from concealing their identities behind face masks.
Wild Child Olympia
The restaurant and bar posted on social media Jan. 29 that it would be open for reduced hours on Friday in support of the General Strike. It will open at 5 p.m. to host a benefit show titled, “Should Humans Exist?” The benefit is in support of the Emma Goldman Youth & Homeless Outreach Project.
“Please stop in for the play and support the local good in the area,” their post states.
The business said it’s also a host to pick up a free “alert whistle” to help notify folks in the area of ICE action.
Vic’s Pizzeria
The local pizza chain posted on social media Jan. 29 that it would be donating 100% of profits from all three locations to the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project in solidarity with the shutdown.
Three Magnets Brewing Co.
The local brewery posted that it would be closed on Friday for the strike. The business posted that telling ICE “to go (expletive) themselves isn’t hard. Forfeiting business on a Friday night during the slow season is.”
The business asked the community to give downtown spots some extra love in February, even those who couldn’t afford to close for the strike. The brewery will be back open on Sunday.
Painted Plate
The small pottery painting business is also planning to donate 100% of its sales to LISO, which is Legal Services of Olympia, on Friday.
Wine Loft
The wine store is open Friday and donating 50% of sales to Advocates for Immigrants in Detention Northwest (AIDNW).
Cascadia Grill
The restaurant is donating a portion of its sales on Friday and Saturday to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The restaurant posted on social media that donations will be made in the names of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
Juju’s Iced Cream & Frozen Custard
The Olympia ice cream shop will be doing the same as Cascadia Grill and donating a portion of its sales from Friday and Saturday to the ACLU.
Aloha Açai Cafe
The cafe in Lacey said it would be closed Friday in solidarity with Minneapolis.
Mi Luna Cuban Cafe
The cafe in Olympia is open Friday and will be donating 100% of profits to World Relief.
Filibuster bar & lounge
The Olympia bar posted on social media that it would be closed Jan. 30 in solidarity with the Nationwide General Strike, “and in support of immigrants that are stripped of due process and face fear at the hands of the state.”
The bar posted that regular hours will resume on Saturday, Jan. 31, and 10% of sales would be donated to Legal Immigration Services of Olympia to help represent detainees at the federal immigration detention center in Tacoma.
