A fire damaged and displaced some residents from an Olympia apartment building Saturday night, a fire official said.

About 10 p.m., Olympia Fire Department crews were dispatched to the Landis Pointe Apartments in the 800 block of Lilly Road Northeast.

They arrived to find a second-floor fire that had spread to a third-floor unit and attic, said Battalion Chief Greg Wright, who clarified he is not related to former fire Chief Greg Wright.

The fire damaged two units of a building that contained around 11 units, he said.

However, the entire building was evacuated to fight the blaze and some residents were unable to return to their apartments, Wright said.

One person was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital for a respiratory issue, he said.

Intercity Transit provided buses so that displaced residents could stay out of the cold and the department’s chaplain worked with Red Cross to find them housing, Wright said.

Although the fire originated on a second-floor balcony, the cause of the fire still needs to be determined, he said.

The building was secured and a fire watch was established before crews left the fire scene about 2 a.m. Sunday, Wright added.
