Power has been restored for thousands of people in the Puyallup area.

A widespread outage that started at about 9:06 a.m. this morning spanned across Puyallup, South Hill and Summit and impacted 23,104 customers.

Puget Sound Energy’s outage map just before 11 a.m. said power has been restored to all customers impacted except for two.

Gerald Tracy, spokesperson for PSE, told The News Tribune that a bird hit a transmission line while crews were doing work, which caused four substations to go out of service.

“[We’re trying to restore power] through switching, which is essentially like rerouting the power,” Tracy told The News Tribune.

Tracy sent The News Tribune a text at 10:38 a.m. saying power had been restored across the area. Earlier this morning, crews estimated a 12:30 p.m. restoration time.

Editor’s note: This article has been updated to say that power has been restored and to include Tracy’s statement about a bird flying into a transmission line.
