‘Mama Green’ arrested on suspicion of selling drugs to minors out of Lacey home
Local law enforcement arrested five people on suspicion of multiple drug and firearm crimes in Lacey Wednesday, including selling drugs to minors.
The arrests occurred at a home near the corner of College Street and 40th Lane Southeast, which is just northwest of Rainier Vista Community Park, according to the Thurston County jail log and court records.
The Thurston County Narcotics Task Force and Lacey police booked five people into the county jail: a 57-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman, a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old man. They were each accused of several drug and firearm crimes, such as unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver while armed, distribution to persons under 18, unlawful possession of a firearm and more.
The crimes specifically reference the possession and intent to deliver marijuana, mushrooms and in one instance, cocaine.
The Olympian does not generally name suspects before they have an initial court appearance or are charged with a crime. Court records don’t yet show whether the suspects in the Lacey investigation had initial appearances in Thurston County Superior Court Thursday afternoon
Witnesses reported seeing police activity in the area via social media, but local law enforcement did not initially provide details.
The Olympian asked the Lacey Police Department to comment Wednesday. Detective Sergeant Derek Thompson deferred to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office did not respond to a request for comment.
The Lacey Police Department later shared details about the investigation that led to the arrests in a Facebook post.
“Evidence developed during the investigation indicates the group was distributing controlled substances, cannabis, and vape products to children as young as 13 years old in Lacey,” the LPD post reads.
Detectives documented “over 150 juveniles” entering the residence on an average school day, according to the post.
“We extend our appreciation all officers who worked this case, and to TNT and Olympia Police Department for their work in support of community safety,” the post reads. “We are also grateful for our community members who promptly reported suspicious activity.”
Court records detail investigation
Court records reviewed by The Olympian Thursday afternoon detail the investigation that led to the arrest. The following is a summary of a probable cause statement filed with the court.
Law enforcement allege the 57-year-old woman sold marijuana and other controlled substances to minors as young as 13 under the name “Mama Green,” according to a probable cause statement. She reportedly did so with the help of her two adult children.
All three of them were arrested Wednesday along with two other people who law enforcement allegedly observed working with them.
Court records give the following account of what happened:
A detective first became aware of “Mama Green” in December after multiple parents started reporting the sales. Detectives interviewed multiple juveniles and learned “Mama Green” operated out of a home on the 4800 block of 40th Lane Southeast.
Lacey police officers watched the home on several occasions in December and observed a “high volume of foot and vehicle traffic going to and from the residence,” the proable cause statement reads.
A confidential informant, who appears underage, purchased marijuana from “Mama Green” five times between December and February.
The informant recorded audio and video during these transactions and paid for the product with pre-recorded funds from the Thurston County Narcotics Task Force. Each purchase was logged as evidence.
The products “Mama Green” sold appeared to be store bought products with labeled age restrictions. Detectives observed the woman purchase the products in bulk from various marijuana stores along the Martin Way corridor.
She allegedly used a medical marijuana card and bought the product at a heavy discount, according to the statement, then sold the product at a 20-30% markup.
Detectives allege they observed her sell alcohol and nicotine products to minors as well.
With the help of Lacey school resource officers, detectives confirmed dozens of middle and high schoolers, some as young as 13, were buying from the woman.
A detective obtained a search warrant on Tuesday for the residence and three vehicles used by the suspects. The detective served the warrant the next day.
Prior to the search, undercover detectives observed the woman’s adult son enter a vehicle with two other men, one of whom had been photographed before at the residence with what appeared to be a pistol shoved down his pants.
The undercover detectives allegedly observed the son and one of the men with firearms in their hands, including a black, semi-automatic pistol and a short-barreled, AR-15 style pistol.
Detectives allege the three men drove to two different locations to conduct suspected narcotics transactions.
Law enforcement detained the three of them when they got back to the residence. The woman and her daughter were also detained when they returned separately.
Detectives obtained a warrant for the vehicle used by the three men and found the two firearms inside along with a small bag of suspected cocaine.
Law enforcement collected a “vast amount” of evidence inside the residence, the statement alleges.
- Signs with rules for customers.
- Over $21,000 in cash.
- Hundreds of marijuana vaporizer cartridges and devices.
- Jars of marijuana leaf product
- Dozens of THC infused candies and edibles.
- Dozens of psilocybin-infused chocolate bars.
- A large bag of raw psilocybin mushrooms.
- Dozens of bottles and containers of alcohol.
- Nicotine products.
- Pre-rolled marijuana joints.
- Scales, a money counter, notes and ledgers.
- A Python .357 magnum handgun in a bedroom dresser drawer.
Inside the woman’s car, detectives found shopping bags filled with about 72 more THC-infused products and another $4,192 in cash.
Detectives interviewed the woman known as “Mama Green” after detaining her. She allegedly admitted to regularly purchasing large amounts of marijuana products and sharing them with her adult children and persons under 21 in exchange for cash.
The woman allegedly said her adult children shared the products with persons under 18 and there were frequently people under 18 at her home.
She allegedly said that she did not sell any marijuana products, alcohol or nicotine, but sometimes accepted “reimbursement” money.
One of the men allegedly admitted to possessing cocaine, but he denied selling it.
