Thurston County driver injured in wreck caused by fleeing suspect, WSP says

A 41-year-old Lacey driver was injured Friday morning after a fleeing suspect crashed into his vehicle near the Port of Tacoma, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Lacey man was taken to Tacoma General Hospital for his injuries.

About 9 a.m., a 30-year-old Tacoma driver was fleeing from a trooper at 102 miles per hour on southbound Interstate 5, Trooper Kameron Watts said via social media Friday morning.

The Tacoma man finally crashed into a freeway barrier, then over-corrrected his steering and crashed into the Lacey driver, according to State Patrol.

The Tacoma driver was injured, too, and taken to MultiCare Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma. He has since been booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, reckless driving, resisting arrest and obstructing a law enforcement officer, jail information shows.

Southbound I-5 was partially blocked for more than two hours after the crash, according to the State Patrol.
