Headed north this weekend on I-5? Plan for congestion on the Nisqually Bridge

A lane closure is coming to the Nisqually Bridge this weekend, the state Department of Transportation announced.

From 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday, crews will reduce northbound Interstate 5 to two lanes, according to WSDOT.

“The lane closures create a work zone so crews can clean the bridge using a specialized under-bridge inspection truck,” the WSDOT release reads.

“Crews will start in the right lane and move to the left lane as work progresses each weekend.”

Traffic congestion is expected, according to WSDOT.

The same work at the same times will take place on southbound I-5 March 14-15.

Cleaning bridges improves the efficiency of WSDOT’s bridge inspection program and helps keep each bridge in good working order, WSDOT officials say.
