Tumwater man arrested after brawl leads to shooting in Centralia, police say

A 29-year-old Tumwater man was arrested earlier this month in connection to a shooting in Centralia.

According to a March 19 news release from the Centralia Police Department, two men were arrested in connection to the March 10 shooting within hours of the incident.

According to the release, it was reported that two men were shooting at each other in an alley in the 900 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia. A physical fight had broken out between the two men that then escalated to both of them firing handguns, the release said. No one was injured in the shooting.

One of them, a Centralia man, was located on Main Street by officers shortly after the incident occurred, according to the release. The Tumwater man was later found hiding in the backyard of a residence on East Locust Street and was taken into custody after a brief struggle, police said.

Both of the men were booked into the Lewis County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the release. Both men have a jury trial scheduled for 9:30 a.m. May 11.

No other suspects are being sought, though the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to call the Centralia Police Department at 360-330-7680.
