Man arrested after confronting neighbors with gun, Thurston Co. Sheriff says

A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes Saturday afternoon after he confronted neighbors while armed with a gun, Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post.

Sanders said he was on his way to a community event on Saturday when he and other deputies were dispatched to the Tanglewood Mobile Home Park in the 10200 block of 185th Avenue Southwest in Rochester.

They were responding to a report of a man armed with a gun.

“We were informed the individual in crisis had possibly used meth and was experiencing severe hallucinations while armed with a gun, and at one point was confronting neighbors with the gun on him,” Sanders said in his post.

Both the sheriff’s office and Chehalis Tribal Police used drones during the incident.

“Between CTP and TCSO drones, we were able to keep complete uninterrupted visual on the person in crisis as he walked around his backyard with the gun,” Sanders said.

An armored vehicle called a “bearcat” also was used, he said.

“We contacted the individual in our armored Bearcat and were able to talk him into custody without using any force,” he said. “The firearm, a .357 revolver, was located back on his porch and was seized.”

The man was arrested on suspicion of displaying a weapon and third-degree malicious mischief/domestic violence, jail roster information shows.
