Thurston County Sheriff’s Office will lead investigation into inmate’s death

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation into an inmate’s death outside the county, the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office has announced.

About 10:55 a.m. Friday, Grays Harbor County corrections deputies and fire crews were dispatched to an unresponsive inmate inside a Grays Harbor County Jail cell.

Corrections deputies, followed by paramedics, attempted to revive the inmate, but that person was ultimately pronounced dead by fire department personnel.

The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office has requested the Region 3 Critical Incident Investigation Team to conduct an independent review.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is part of that team and will lead the investigation, according to a news release.

The Grays Harbor County Coroner will release the identity of the inmate and the official cause of death following completion of the investigation, the release reads.
