Scramble for eggs

Tumwater’s Easter Egg Dash is an egg hunt on a grand scale — and it’s free. There will be 20,000 eggs (the plastic kind filled with tiny treasures and coupons) waiting to be found at the 29th dash, happening Saturday, April 4. The Easter Bunny will be in attendance, and there will also be booths with activities and giveaways, and a coffee truck. The hunt (http://www.ci.tumwater.wa.us/EasterEggDash) will happen in the grassy field behind the stadium at Tumwater High School, 700 Israel Rd. SW, Tumwater. The hunt is organized by age group: Youth with disabilities or higher support needs will dash at 11, tots 4 and younger at 11:15, kids 5-7 at 11:30 and those 8-11 at 11:45. In other words, don’t be late — bring a basket or bag to take home what the kids find.

Country that rocks

Seattle tribute band Hell on Heels, playing Saturday, April 4, in Olympia, pays homage to country music’s defining women, including Dolly Parton, Reba McIntyre and Shania Twain. And as the name suggests, the eight-piece band likes its music fierce and fiery. The hell-raising crew was voted first runner-up for Favorite Newcomer in the 2025 Northwest Country Music & Americana Association. The concert kicks off at 9 p.m. at Nicole’s Bar, 109 Legion Way SW, Olympia. There’s a $10 cover charge. The show is, of course, for ages 21 and older only, and valid ID is required.

Jazz icon

Greta Matassa, who has eight times been voted the Northwest’s best jazz vocalist by Earshot magazine, will perform Monday, April 6, in Olympia. And that’s just the beginning of Matassa’s honors: She’s in the Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame and has received decades of glowing accolades from critics and jazz aficionados alike. The Greta Matassa Quintet, featuring Brian Monroney on guitar, Clipper Anderson on bass, Mark Ivester on drums and Alexey Nikolaev on saxophone, will perform as part of Olympia Jazz Central’s regular offerings at the Eagles Club, 805 Fourth Ave. E, Olympia. The concert, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., is open to Eagles members and visitors; visitors are welcome and are asked to RSVP by email (olyjazzcentral@gmail.com). Admission is by cash donation, with $10-$25 suggested. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. All ages are welcome until 9 p.m.
