A pursuit on Interstate 5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord Saturday night began when a driver allegedly fled from the scene of a crash.

A trooper was dispatched at around 11:36 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near DuPont for the crash. A vehicle involved in the incident drove off in front of the trooper, Washington State Patrol spokesperson Trooper Kameron Watts told The News Tribune. Watts said he was not sure on the details of this crash.

The trooper began a pursuit and attempted a PIT maneuver, but was unsuccessful, Watts said.

The driver turned around to go northbound on I-5, he said. Spike strips were deployed, and a successful PIT maneuver was conducted before the JBLM Main Gate exit.

The driver allegedly did not comply with demands, and Watts said less lethal tactics were deployed. He did not have information on which tactics were specifically deployed.

No one was seriously injured, he said. The driver was treated on scene.

Watts said the driver was arrested on suspicion of felony eluding, DUI, obstruction and resisting arrest.
