Man ‘extremely impaired’ arrested for assault, Thurston County Sheriff says

A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault/domestic violence after he pointed a gun at the victim, Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders said in a social media post.

Deputies were dispatched late Sunday to the 8500 block of Waddell Creek Road. But before they arrived, they learned more about the incident via a 911 call, Sanders said.

“An open 911 line could be heard between two partners where one was pleading for the other to stop loading a gun with additional yelling and a dog barking in the background,” he said in his post.

The caller was able to escape the residence after the suspect pointed a firearm at them, and then a deputy arrived who held the suspect at gunpoint until reinforcements arrived, Sanders said.

“Additional units arrived and took the suspect, who was extremely impaired, into custody,” he wrote. “Deputies are currently in the process of obtaining a search warrant to seize all the firearms for safekeeping, and are conducting a threat assessment with the victim.”

The suspect was taken to an area hospital before being booked into jail, Sanders said.
