A man believed to be in his 40s was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after part of a tree fell and hit him in the head, a Lacey Fire District 3 official said.

Lacey fire crews and police were dispatched about 1:30 p.m. to the 3400 block of Ruddell Road Southeast.

Battalion Chief Pat Harn said the man was taking down some trees on a vacant lot when the tree fell on him. He described the injuries as “pretty significant,” he said.

As a result, a helicopter landed at nearby Rainier Vista Park in Lacey and the man was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, he said.

Further information was not immediately available.
