Driver crashes into Thurston County bank after medical issue, police say

A driver crashed his car into a Lacey bank Wednesday evening due to a medical issue, according to Lacey police.

The incident occurred at around 6:20 p.m. at the Bank of America on Sleater Kinney Road Southeast, Sgt. Derek Thompson told The Olympian on Thursday.

The driver, a Lacey man in his 50s, struck a fire hydrant and a concrete wall before crashing into the security bollards just outside the bank, Thompson said. Witnesses reported the driver traveled at about 50 miles per hour, he added.

First responders provided “basic life support” and transported the driver to an area hospital, Thompson said.

Thompson attributed the crash to a medical issue. Officers noted no signs of impairment, he said, and no other people were injured in the incident.
